No, let's get something really straight.

I didn't say that server busy errors were caused by low bandwidth on the internet backbone. I said that broken pipe errors were caused by bandwidth contention issues, which is true. Server busy errors are related to bandwidth problems because more bandwidth = more users = less server access.

And would you like to know the real answer as to why Netscape's server is so fast? They have a battalion of servers. And, of course, the speed of an FTP connection varies according to a number of factors which is not limited to the bandwidth of the line connected to it, the server software, etc. etc. The real issue about the internet is that it is an international entity by definition. If someone in Sweden wants to access a site in China, the request may very well be routed through the U.S. So as more people thoughout the entire world begin using the internet, the slower it will get. It's the complete opposite of an economy of scale: the more consumers that use the service, the less efficient the service becomes.

>Or show me study to prove that only porn web site makes money.

Well, how many pay web sites do you subscribe to? Multimedia Wire, perhaps? I won't even use a website that requires me to register, let alone pay and most of my colleagues are the same way. I don't know of any study that supports or refutes my claim, but I do know someone who runs a pay-for-porn web site who's rolling in cash while my clean-as-a-whistle friend who runs an ISP is struggling because there is so much competition for basic services. It seems that no matter how many pay porn sites pop up (forgive the pun) they are always busy. If you don't believe me, why don't you actually talk to people in the industry? I've known more than one person who's tried to make money via the web, and all have failed miserably. The only decent sources of income on the web are: advertising and porn. SW has decided not to go the porn route (I assume) and doesn't have a deep enough user base to support advertising (yet.) All I'm trying to say is that it's kind of lame for Charlotte Walker to come up with a lame "transaction-based web site" as a means of making money from the recent recapitalization. Sounds like a bit of an easy answer ('Look! We'll make money on the information superhighway') to me. The only chance of a meager existance SW has will be as a provider of curriculum-based software to schools with a little home sales on the side. Certainly not enough business to support several $100k+ a year executives.

Bart.
