<<Agree....we need a new party, system, whatever but we need change.>.
Even one of my daughters sort of feels that way. Here is what I told her tonight.
Here is my argument for simply revitalizing the dem party.
A couple of reasons:
1) Each major party represents a philosophy, by and large;
A Republican's, myth and script and lack of creative abstract thinking
B Democrats, two kinds
a: intellectuals who use reason and facts
b people who know the dems will stand with them and help them.
That pretty much encompasses everyone.
So what philosophy/ mind set would a 3rd party represent? The closet thing is the libertarians and they are mostly just a confused lot and their efforts never go anywhere ------ because there is not a sound philosophy there. In conservative states Indpendents vote with the pubs and in dem states (like Oregon) with the dems.
2) The Democratic party has plenty of smart honest liberals and especially if you look at the women in the senate.(17? dem women senators!) Warren, Klobuchar, Gilibrand, Macaskill and on and on. And there are also the Sherrod Browns and others.
The Dem party has a 100 years of structure. We just need to get back to the FDR mentality and then fight for it.
We did just that in Alaska. In the 70's. we dems took control of the house and were called the "Ad Hoc" dems. We were really young and fearless (around 30 most of us) and fought the pubs.
I worked on four dem governor races and for them: Egan, Sheffield, Cowper and Knowles. When the dem governor got in all pubs not classified were asked to quit and the entire government was filled with "our guys" , the liberals and the Gov would ask: "is he one of our guys?'
That is how the pubs are fighting and it is what we need to do.
And trying to invent a third party where there is no coherent philosophy is a waste of time and will not work, IMNSHO. We are fighting a war and have no time to build a new army. We need a new general like Warren.
Lincoln replaced a very humanitarian decent Mcclellan, with the very crude Grant because Grant would fight.
What Lincoln said.
