BBN is trading at 28 7/8, so the market suggests that the GTE
offer is a done deal. I doesn't own BBN now, but I have a bid at
28 in the market to participate in a little arbitrage play (when
I buy at the current price my brokerage fees aren't covered with
the 1/8 spread between the market and the GTE offer). A bidding war?
Well, there aren't any counter offers on recent networking deals like
the ASND-CSCC- or the COMS-USRX-merger. In fact there aren't any bid
premiums or cash offers in these deals either. So I think this is
a done deal as most institutions will tender their shares to GTE.
And we individual investors haven't the power to prevent BBN from
getting taken over at 29. Who should make a counter offer ?
ATT: Why should they buy BBN after their spin off of LU ?
Another baby bell: They have enough to do with their own mergers (like
SBC-PAC) and they not seem to be in buying mood, because they also
haven't made an offer for CSRV which is for sale for some month now.
What are your thoughts on a bidding war?
