Forty times fewer Internet service providers will be left in the market by the year 2000. That prediction, made by Forrester Research and supported by many in the industry, is based largely on the fact that commodity pricing for access to the Internet will force the rapidly expanding ISP market to just as quickly contract.In 1993, there were only about 90 ISPs. Today, there are about 4,400, Forrester estimates, but, within five years, it projects that number to approach 1993 levels, with about 100 companies providing Internet services.
