Bill Yousef, AMD already announced a plan for complete conversion to .25u proposed to be completed sometime between 2nd and 3rdqrt98. Since the driving economics of the .25u process suppport lower cost from the smaller dice size Why would they continue .35u. Yousef The increased cost you refered to is a reflection of some of the Fab conversion cost being expensed. The acounting standards force the expenses as incurred rather than deferred. Ultimatly the companies balance sheet is cleaner and to some extent understates the manufacturing potential going forward. The accounting standars process keep the company healthy and free from unantisipated write-offs. The Us accounting standards are the toughest in the world. Other forign nations don't follow all the same standards which is a good reason why stockholders should aviod forign investment unless they know the accounting standards. You can see what's going on in Asia and Japan as examples.
