SteveG: Sorry, I agree my point wasn't clear. My line of thinking on ATM/Layer-2-Layer-3-switching is away from a router based technology where you look at every packet at each hop. In a switching environment the initial setup takes some time, but for stream applications switching is the technology. This comment was in reference to the tracert command and seeing the hop count.

There was just an article where AMTX's CEO talked about some of the reasons for the merger. He mentioned they didn't have the time to work on "modem-pooling" and something else. I thought it was interesting that he mentioned modem pooling, since Netspeed has ADSL modem-pooling patents on the technology... unti later.
