Novell's GroupWise Gains A Million New Users in
1999

Directory-enabled E-mail and Collaboration Solution Gains Momentum with Novell Directory
Services and NetWare 5

NEW YORK, PC EXPO '99, June 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Riding the wave of customer demand for collaboration business
solutions, Novell's GroupWise® gained 1 million new users in the United States in the first three months of calendar year 1999,
according to International Data Corporation (IDC). GroupWise 5.5 is Novell's premier collaboration product enabled by
Novell® Directory Services® (NDS(TM)). GroupWise gives customers the complete set of e-mail and collaboration tools
they need to take full advantage of new Internet technologies while gaining total control over user information, applications and
other resources on their business networks.

Hundreds of directory-enabled application products, including GroupWise, have surged in customer acceptance along with the
fast growth of NDS and Novell's NetWare® 5 server platform. The integration of GroupWise with NDS enables customers to
control both their network and collaboration applications from a single console. While designed to give customers full command
of the network access and management advantages of NDS and NetWare 5, GroupWise 5.5 is also a cross-platform solution
that runs on NetWare, Windows NT and several flavors of Unix.

''The 1999 U.S. market for integrated collaborative environment (ICE) software, commonly referred to as groupware, saw its
three leading vendors [including Novell] in a close heat (within one million new users of one another) for the period January
through March 1999,'' stated IDC in a June 7 announcement. The announcement also offered that ''Novell GroupWise will
continue benefiting from the strength of NetWare 5.''

''These are the best of times for GroupWise,'' said Tom Rhoton, director of marketing for Novell. ''With a user base of more
than 18 million customers, GroupWise continues to gain recognition as the most secure, scalable and manageable groupware
solution on the market. With integrated features like document management and Web publishing, GroupWise 5.5 gives
companies the tools for extending their business networks to the Internet.''

GroupWise Plug-In for Outlook

Novell's GroupWise Plug-In for Outlook, now in closed beta testing, allows users of Outlook 98 to access GroupWise 5.5.
Through its integrated services with a broad range of client software options, including POP 3, IMAP and any Web browsers,
the plug-in enables customers to preserve their legacy investments in Outlook while taking advantage of NDS and other
advanced networking services. Users choose the desktop client they prefer: Novell's GroupWise, the Outlook client
pre-installed on many desktop systems, or both GroupWise and Outlook in the same enterprise or local environment. In
addition, IT administrators can now centrally manage both GroupWise and Outlook users through NDS.

''With roughly 150 mobile salespeople throughout the country using a variety of client interfaces for their e-mail, we needed a
solution that made it possible to unify our sales force on a single e-mail address book and give them access to enhanced
collaboration features,'' said Jason Womack, network services manager for Kendall-Jackson Winery. ''Using the GroupWise
Plug-In for Outlook, we can connect those salespeople to GroupWise through the Microsoft Outlook client, which in most
cases is already installed on their laptops. Not only does that provide a consistent company address book and access to
GroupWise's integrated features like calendaring and scheduling, but it also allows us to centrally manage the company's e-mail
system.''

A Leading Role in the Business Ecosystem

The rapid growth in GroupWise deployments has contributed to the business ecosystem of customers, application developers,
solutions and services providers that has evolved along with the success of the NetWare 5 platform and NDS. Backed by
Novell's extensive consulting, technical support, and education programs, GroupWise customers and development partners are
leveraging its directory-based tool set in a broad range of applications and business activities.

Novell recently took top honors in three categories in Computer Reseller News' annual Channel Champions survey, including
top honors for GroupWise in the groupware category. Resellers worldwide participated in the survey for CRN and selected
GroupWise because of its superior marks, relative to its competitors, in areas such as technical support, responsiveness and
co-op marking programs.

GroupWise was also named this month as a finalist in the Document Management category of Law Office Computing's 5th
Annual Readers' Choice Awards. In addition, GroupWise 5.5 in May 1999 earned ''Entrust Ready'' network security
certification from Entrust Technologies Inc., the market-leading provider of Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) technology and
associated security products. As an Entrust-Ready Product, GroupWise 5.5 integrates with Entrust PKI security products,
enhancing the security of business communications by enabling users to encrypt and digitally sign message text and attachments.

''As the Internet continues to change the way we communicate, companies need to be able to extend their businesses to the
Internet in a secure, trusted and reliable way,'' said Bob Heard, senior vice president, marketing and business development,
Entrust Technologies Inc. ''The integration of GroupWise 5.5 and Entrust/PKI offers a comprehensive, standards-based
solution that allows users to communicate securely over networks with people both inside and outside an organization.''
