<Thanks Elmer, but the question was "What are the technical or performance advantages of Slot 1 over Socket 8?>

Uuuups, sorry! None, that I know of. Yet... Look for Slot1 to reach 100mhz soon, something Socket8 won't do, and look for larger cache on the Slot1 card at a lower price than the $$$$ 1meg socket8 version of the PPro. The next jump should be to 133mhz, something socket7 will probably never do(probably can't do).
The other advantage of the P6 bus architecture I forgot to mention is the L2 cache is moved to the "backside" bus. All L2 accesses are done without using any of the processor bus bandwidth. On the PPro they are at full processor frequency. On the PII they are currently at 1/2 the processor speed. Moving to full processor frequecny looks like one of the advantages of the so called "Slot2". AMD is hoping to imitate some of these advantages on a future extension of socket7.
