K, If you've never fired a handgun before it will take much practice to become proficient and safe. Most people are not naturals with handguns. However I have found those who are gifted with photography skills are more inclined to be quick learners. This weapon is offered in 9mm which produces a mild recoil. This model is very accurate and reliable. Being stainless steel, it can be carried close to the body or in a "bag" without worry of corrosion. Stainless does require special lubrication vs. regular gun oil but that is available in any gun store. This weapon is "double action only" so it has a long, yet smooth trigger pull. This creates an option for a chambered round, yet produces no more possibility of accidental discharge than would a revolver. I consider this a perfect carry weapon. Shootie
