I would prefer that Rahm had chosen the US military over the Israeli military, since he is first and foremost an American. Or is he? And, yes it is a severe conflict when the Israeli military just committed an atrocity that has been condemned by the world community. And, yes it is a severe conflict to be advising Obama on his former commrades (IDF) behavior as to those atrocities.
