I wouldn't call the war a lapse of judgement. Maybe the earlier statements about WMD are, but I think its more likely they represent a lack of accurate info.


I consider going to war on weak data a lapse of judgement. The data on WMD was decidedly mixed. The Bush administration choice to rely only on the data that suggested Saddam had WMDs. In my book, that borders on irresponsible.

It was the same guys in power now who provided aid to Saddam back in the '80s.

When it was feared that he would be overun by Iran. Also the US isn't even in the top 5 on the list of weapons providers to Saddam's military.


In 1979, there was a major revolution Iran; then the hostage crisis. The country was in turmoil for at least 2-3 years. To suggest that Iran was getting ready to attack Iraq is laughable.
