An article on the future of MMC inside portable music (MP3) players.

And this one must be using CompactFlash judging from its capacity.

And this is what is in the pipeline.

It sounds fantastic. MP3 is a new sound compression scheme that can reduce the size of music files by a factor or 10 (ten) without any noticeable degradation. I had to hear it to believe it. A full CD is 650M in Wave format thus it renders to about 65M in MP3 format. 65M is definitely within the reach of CompactFlash. Days are coming when we can jog (or play football taking full impact hit) with music on without having to worry about it skipping. (I am sure music skipping was your main concern when you fell off your bike with your CD player on.)

I look forward to using my SanDisk as film on my digital camera and as tape on my MP3 player and who knows what next.

James
