Jim, first let me tell you that your double dealing, unless I am
misinterpreting it (let me assume so at this point against my
better judgment), does not speak highly for you.

I have done radio astronomy work before at Arecibo in Puerto
Rico. It is very tricky. Maps are never used directly from
the telescope but rather are routinely cleaned by various
algorythms of one kind or another which can do more than
simply improve the data set. Fast fourier transforms,
maximum entropy methods, and the like. Putting
together observations of many galaxies over a
period of several nights is an inherently tricky concept when
it comes to radio observations and I do not care how good
the observer is there is still the danger of getting fooled
The guy I worked for during one of my grad student summers is
a highly respected observer and he fouls up big now and then.

Polarization measurements can be an indication of several things.
What these astronomers would like it to mean is coherence of the
magnetic field over that length scale. Results like
this are proposed every few years and every time in the past
they have been shown to be in error. If you do not hear
about this again you will know that this was its fate.

I do not believe myself but I certainly do not discount it
altogether. But it is certainly nothing to feel that shakes
the foundations of astronomy at this time.
