Yes, I noticed! With Phil Otto gone the company should begin to get
back on track again. A lot of ground has been lost over the past few
years. CMICs only weakness in the communications sector is a lack of
expertize in swicthing technology. (i.e they are principally an RF
company depending on companies like Hughes Network Systems etc for this portion of the tecnology). In my opinion this is where Otto made
a major blunder. If they had aquired expertize in this area they would
be in a position to offer a total solution to their customers and the stock would be in the $50s now. If you want a good laugh read the 1996 Annual Report.
Having said that they have good customer relations and a world-wide presence. If they look at the opporunities carefully and
come up with a game plan better that changing the names of the various
division to incorporate the CalMike name and logo they could do well.
The opportunities are there for CMIC if they can come up with some intuitive ideas to meet customer needs especially in the 3rd
world and other remote areas. Its a pity the chief executive squandered the last 3 years.
