Is Preloaded OEM Software Big News?

Mukti,

Thanks for the quick post of the press release about the
NEC deal. I'm impressed with how fast the stock rose
on the news. The intraday chart on Lombard is impressive,
especially because it shows the strength coming from lots
and lots of small sales, which has been IOMG's strength.

The biggest news in the press release for me, though,
isn't that NEC will be carrying the Zip in select models,
but rather that they'll be preloading the IOMG software
into ALL the machines, whether the customer orders a
Zip or not. That makes an aftermarket Zip (or Jaz)
installation a simple plug-in operation. I certainly
hope KE is securing that kind of arrangement with all
the OEM deals. It's a Bill-Gates-style move. Very,
very smart. That and the price break OEMs get on the
Zip guarantee that the Zip will be standard equipment,
in my estimation. The only way they could do better
would be if they could con Microsoft into including
the driver directly into Windows/DOS.

What do the rest of you think about this move?

Cheers, Tom
