The real objective of the stockholders are to keep the management on their toes and keep losses to a minimum as their go forward on the Business plan 2000. It is going to materialize with possibly 70 GAP stores.

The GAP stores will compliment the SMC stores by their apparel business. This will give the SMC stores more traffic. On the other hand, sitting in a store to order merchandise online at regular prices, may not work out for SMC. If only 70 stores will be converted, the damage if any is minimized. So far the online stores are all small in revenue and depends a great deal on deep discounts. Walmart is still not successful with their web site. And SMC just emailed out their new discounted items which included 13" Sansui TV at $89. The TV they used for displaying digital cameras.

In retail, when you have uncertain plan, you remodel stores. In this case, the plans for internet revenue is maybe still a few years away. Store size may hurt revenue, more than what internet sales may gain.

We still might have to rely on hot products, displays, and weekly discounts; the old traditional retail strategy to make a profit. Internet revenue comes maybe too late.
