The Chairman's Corner:
( January 2001 )
I am pleased to report the results of our recent annual meeting to you. All proxy items received an overwhelming vote of approval from the shareholders. Among other things, our shareholders approved changing the Company’s name change to DecisionLink, Inc. and approved an increase in authorized share capital. This now clears the way for us to move forward with our business plan.
We were very pleased with the number of shareholders attending the meeting in person. Presentations were given outlining the Company’s activities since completion of the merger of FiberChem and Intrex last July 27. Those presentations included a review of our current market-ready products, new research and development programs, and our aggressive new marketing program. It was emphasized that our marketing strategy is to build a series of strong marketing partnerships with leading companies in various global regions, with those partners having in place entrees into specific industry markets.
In line with our marketing strategy, we announced a Memorandum of Understanding with Inepar Telecom SA of Brazil, prior to the annual meeting. Inepar is a major Brazilian company with interests in Telecommunications, Satellites, Telephony, Wireless Communications, Digital Networks, the Internet, Power Generation, Power Transmission, Oil and Gas, Water, Public Transportation, and others.
We are in the process of finalizing an agreement to form a joint venture company to provide services and products related to fixed and mobile asset monitoring systems to Mercosur countries of Brazil, Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay. We hope to provide you with more details of the definitive agreement and the markets during the first quarter of 2001.
Since the Annual Meeting we have announced that we entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Ridlington Enterprises Limited of Tortola, British Virgin Islands, to form a joint venture company to identify a mass market for DecisionLink’s products in the Middle East and Central Asia and to provide suitable distribution channels for those products. Ridlington Enterprises Limited is part of the TRADCO Group of Companies which is the holding entity for a group of Saudi Arabian companies owned by Sheikh Khalid A. Alturki and Sons. The group is engaged in trading, contracting and manufacturing and has subsidiaries and associates in the USA, Canada, and Great Britain. TRADCO’s main interests include: oil & gas installations (both on & offshore); petrochemical and industrial installations; power plants, substations, transmission lines and distribution systems; construction management and materials; electrical and mechanical contracting; electronics, including process controls, computer maintenance, batteries, telecommunications, mobile radios, instrumentation and paging systems; and general trading. The TRADCO group has completed numerous and extensive programs for Saudi Arabian Oil Co. (SAUDI ARAMCO) and other major international corporations.
We also announced that Enraf BV, of Delft, The Netherlands, a leading provider of land-based tank gauging systems and instruments world wide, has entered into a global strategic marketing and sales alliance with DecisionLink’s FCI Environmental unit (FCI) for FCI’s proven PetroSense® continuous monitoring system. This system will provide owners of tank farms and fuel depots fail-safe solutions to avoid damage to the environment from leaks and/or product spills. Enraf will serve the rapidly growing worldwide market for these types of environmental protection systems solutions.
These agreements with Inepar, Tradco and Enraf are all very important steps in DecisionLink’s strategy to be positioned early in 2001 to address large global markets by partnering with industry leaders in their fields. These alliances represent exactly the kind of opportunities we saw developing as a result of the marriage of DecisionLink’s environmental and communications technologies.
Together with our partner TankSat LLC, we have begun global marketing of the patented and proprietary TankSat propane tank measurement and reporting system. There is a high level of interest in this system on the part of key leaders in the propane distribution industry throughout the world.
We expect that we will be able to announce other significant partnership arrangements and contracts during the first quarter of this year. Those arrangements should lead to significant revenues starting shortly thereafter.
We feel that our stock price today does not adequately reflect the synergies of our merger and the size of the resulting opportunities presented to us. We will be working hard to get our message out in 2001.
The two messages we want to leave everyone with are: first, we are putting together a number of building blocks with powerful partners; and second, finalizing these long-term, high revenue potential deals with large companies doesn’t happen overnight. We have been working on these agreements and marketing arrangements for some time now and we believe you will see positive results from them during this fiscal year.
We are committed to managing the company with the long-term best interests of all of DecisionLink’s stakeholders in mind. This approach was echoed by our Board members, all of whom were present at the Annual Meeting.
I thank you all, employees, investors and customers, for your support and wish you all a prosperous and successful 2001.
Geoff Hewitt, Chairman.
