One of the only things that Slick dick had in his energy program was greatly increasing the nations reliance on coal and nuclear fuel. They both have big problems but so does dealing with the ME gov who use our money to foment hate rather than to educate and improve the economic plight of their neighbors.
Some time ago I had an exchange with mr watson whom I have since put on ignore telling him that nukes were not perfectly safe. Nothing is but they can be very safe. Like late model cars the new ones would be safer than those put into commission 40 years ago. Coal can be burned much more cleanly but mining itself is a problem. I think it can be overcome but I sure don't trust W & co to see that the environment is protected in the mining and burning of it. There is opportunity cost to every development. The only way to reduce our dependence on the ME is to reduce our dependence on oil all together.
