Cisco Ditches IP/ATM Technology In Favor Of Monterey Box

My problem is that I get it right too early. The writing is on the wall, we just have to read it right. Lets get rid of all the smoke screen.
1) CSCO isn't going head on against LU, NT etc on PSTN stuff. CSCO will buy pass the existing networks. If you wrap ATM stuff around exitsing PSTN you'll get a next generation network. But if you short-circuit -as I wrote before- you get a next next generation network. Read the recent past news under this perspective and you'll see it.

Cisco Ditches IP/ATM Technology In Favor Of Monterey Box
Cisco Systems Inc has halted the development of its IP/ATM backbone switch in favor of technology from Monterey Networks Inc, according to sources close to the company. Monterey, a Texas-based start up in which Cisco took a minority stake last month, makes wavelength routers for next generation optical networks. Cisco would not disclose the amount it has invested in Monterey, but it was significant enough to gain Graeme Fraser, Cisco's VP and general manager of optical internetworking, a seat on the board.
