Actually, I have proposed that the legal definition of birth be at the time the umbilical cord is cut. This avoids a class of legal problems that could occur when a fetus is brought outside the womb for sugery, and then replaced into the womb at the conclusion. At the current time, once the umbilical is cut there is no going back, so the fetus is on it's own as an independant baby at that time anyway. Prior to that it is either a parasite or a blessing depending upon whether the host (mother) wants to bring it to term.
