Cambridge, Massachusetts, April 17 (Bloomberg) -- BBN Corp.
said it received an additional $200 million in business from
America Online Inc. for work on AOL's new high-speed network.
The new order brings BBN's total contract for work on AOLnet
to more than $700 million over four years.
Cambridge, Massachusetts-based BBN, which builds networks
that link computers over phone lines, is developing and operating
a large part of AOLnet.
AOL unveiled a $19.95 unlimited monthly usage fee in
December, leading to a flood of new subscribers that slowed its
network. Angry customers who were unable to access their e-mail,
forcing AOL to spend $350 million through June to beef up its
network.
The new order is the third expansion of a March 1995
contract between the two companies, and follows an order in
January for a furt
