If the Pirates were still playing for something and he had more wins then yes, probably. Technically that's not how MVP is supposed to be awarded but so goes it. The lack of wins means he likely won't even get many votes for NL Cy Young. He can't really do anything more than he has for a team that isn't very good, and ownership isn't building around him. If he stays healthy, whether they trade him or play out his rookie contract, expect his next contract to set an MLB record for a pitcher.
