<so you propose to regulate everything ?>

No, food, water, air quality sounds good.

<I assume that you would be in favor of suing McDonalds right ?>

No, but I wouldn't be against public awareness campaign ala cigarettes 20 years ago.

<If the person is dumb enough to eat there (same thing with tobacco, if you are dumb enough to smoke)... then you deserve both... getting fat and getting cancer...>

Yep.

<I mean.. dumb and dumber will do dumb things... >

Yep... so Europeans are smarter than us about eating and food.... hmmm. Maybe smart enough to regulate it?

<does that mean we need armies of attorneys and bureaucrats to save them from themselves ?>

I don't think so...

<and btw... "choice" to me is not only "lovely" it is essential.>

So should 'choice' be regulated into the system??? There are plenty of examples of lack of choice.

<what are the prospects for unskilled labor (and even skilled labor).. well I would say, the price will come down... why ? because there are a lot of poor people in other countries that are willing to work for less than in the Western industrialized nations...>

Yes, and we can expect unemployment to move up sharply commensurate with the global situation.

<I am definitively NOT in favor of regulation... I hate bureaucrats with passion>

But clearly there will ALWAYS be SOME regulation, you're regulated to pay taxes... you're regulated not to kill people, regulation on clean air and water have made quite a positive impact IMO.

So........... my point is simply there seems to be something positive going on in France and Germany that ISNT going on here.... because people HERE are blowing up like blimps and scarfing down anxiety drugs like nuts. Now, is that regulation of food??? Regulation on working hours??? Maybe not, I dont' know. BUT to look at current economic stats, and say "look, our economic numbers are so much better, our system is better than those countries and they are WRONG", and NOT take into account looming healthcare costs from whatever is going on over here, the deteriorating quality of life, is comparing apples and oranges at best.

<perhaps the religious authorities will reconsider their stance when it comes to birth control in the third world and their fairie-tale theories of heaven and hell -lol !>

Well, that would be regulation... so they're actually 'free marketeers', ie. on your team above.
