OT: Jay, T minus 8 hours here in Sydney where Taikun is researching Aussie Internet stocks and preparing to greet the millenium. Currently 12/31 4:15 PM, most big shops shut at noon, bank lines long and some out of cash (Thomas Cook in Kings Cross) was out of cash at 3pm. No panic, lots of water and canned food in the shops. 1-1.5m people heading to the harbour to watch the extravaganza. My wife's favorite Veuve Cliquot '93 rose champagne is 1/4 the San Francisco price. Internet usage still growing at a 30-40% rate at present (based on AOL, UUNET numbers). Australia has one of the highest cellphone costs in the world (more than Japan and double the US) so Telstra is profitable but who knows how long that will last. General expectations for new internet IPO flotations high, and the papers report strong interest in these Aussie issues from int'l investors.
I am planning my resolutions for 00 and consulting my accountant on my 9984 gains will be top priority.
Less dotcom ads than San Francisco, less people using palm pilots than Tokyo, NY, San Fran, less people on cellphones. More people at the beach.
Happy Third Millenium to everyone on this thread. Together we have enrichened our lives, and not just in the monetary sense.
  Thank you,
  Taikun |
