Icy, here is an interesting article in FORTUNE that talks about the coming of DSL. DSL does not appear to be a pipe dream, but a reality that will be exploited and utilized. Specifically, when one can perform LAN/WAN-based work via the web (ala access concentrators such as Avidia by PAIR) at a LOW cost, one of the true potentials of this technology will be realized. Look at what DSL is targeted for. It appears downloading a video to play on the future digital video recorder will be left to the cable providers, but that is not to say phone lines will not have a say, especially when the likes of Broadcast.com will more than likely provide some sort of pay-per-view service.
