Comments on Buzztime.com's latest incarnation. For me, it has been a new negative. They may have solved the problems with viewing the playscreen under linux with a higher resolution than required (I haven't checked back on my linux box in IL yet) and perhaps some other technical problems. This may a good thing if completed. What I didn't like about the changes were the content and some new tech glitches. 1) Doesn't always "Tune in" on the first try and I have to reload. 2) The new Chat is a disaster, IMHO. Instead of conversing with the people your playing against, your options are a set of rooms like 20svills and 30sville. Splitting you up by other interests rather than the game at hand. What moron came up with this substitution for the game-wide chat? If the site wants to maintain off-game chat rooms, that's fine. It might even help bring more people in and help on stickyness, but to kill off the equivalent of complimenting or demeaning the guy at the other end of the bar (analogy to the NTN Network game) for his answer takes half of the fun out of it. 3) The new leader board displayed after each question doesn't include the score each player received for that question. You practically have to be Rain Man to figure out how well you did v. everyone else on that question. 4) The timer object has been speeded up too much. I read and comprehend fairly well, but with my system (PII 3something W98) I can't get the question read before 8-900 point level. And the final clue doesn't give enough time to pick up your 100 points even though you had narrowed it down to 2 from the start. 5) And about the chat: I checked a few rooms and they all seem to be empty. I also crash Netscape sometimes when I try to enter a second chat room after leaving another one. 6) related to 5. Of course W98, after shutting down NS, just froze and I had to reboot and reconnect to my ISP (not the fault of NTN), but it wouldn't let me continue the current game because I was already logged in on a dead session. This might have to be solved by some kind of timeout within a game. I noticed that I could relogin when I tried again many hours later. Well, I hope the BUZZTIME guys don't take this personally, it's just some critical feedback I'm sure they need. So June, what are your thoughts on the soft release of buzztime.com? Cheers, Rich
