a store manager at a prominent UK mobile phone retailer said, ‘the majority of people that come in want an Android-powered device. No one asks for Windows Phone.’
Asked about why they thought this was the case, the store manager added: ‘I personally think that Microsoft was too late with Windows Phone. They [Microsoft] also didn't have enough buy in from manufacturers like Android does.’
Nokia, however, is still very popular with people buying new phones, claims the source. This is likely the reason that Microsoft chose them and not HTC, for example, as their chief hardware partner. Our source at a highstreet phone shop added, ‘People come into the shop and ask for the newest Nokia handset – they’re not bothered by what operating system it uses.’
Old buying habits, even one’s dating back to the late -90s, are still at play in the UK mobile space, it seems. It also explains why Nokia, out of all the Windows Phone’s launch partners, is the only one to actually have any real success with the platform.
