On the face of it, Microsoft is acting in a contradictory fashion. On the one hand they are forcefully touting the new version of Microsoft Network, and on the other, all new copies of MS Windows include AOL's software and a prominently placed AOL icon.

However, I believe one can draw a few conclusions from this apparent contradiction:

1. Microsoft believes there is a place for online service providers or they wouldn't be spending money to develop and market MSN.

2. Microsoft believes there is room for at least two such providers--AOL and MSN.
