Vengold itemus launches with ideaPark team
Vengold Inc., a Vancouver-based mining company is changing its name to itemus Inc. to reflect its transition into an emerging-technology incubator. The company's management team is led by CEO Jim Tobin, the founder and former executive vice-president of BCE Emergis. The team also includes the founders of Vancouver high-tech incubator ideaPark Rory Holland, David Schulz and Alison Lawton. The company plans to back selected Canadian high-tech start-ups with capital and management advice. It will start out with $70 million in capital. Itemus has agreed to acquire ideaPark and Ottawa-based Web developer Intrasoft Technologies. Itemus Inc. will provide sizable new facilities, world-class Web and software development resources, new knowledge capital, international contacts, and smart capital, said Tobin. Also joining the itemus Inc. team are Mark Maybank, a technology analyst with Yorkton Securities; Curtis Hollister, founder of Intrasoft Technologies; and Anthony Iantorno, who comes from General Electric, NBC and CMGI.
