Routine ADEA violations for more "mature" law school grads?

So, I've heard that older law school grads have a much tougher time finding employment at graduation than do their younger counterparts. Specifically, those doing the hiring clearly shy away from older students. Now, I'm not talking geriatric here -- 40 somethings and up is what I've heard.

1. Is this true? Can any one corroborate it?

2. Is so, why is it true? While it may be true that many older students do not want to "start at the bottom" or may have higher salary demands, most are willing to pay their dues. In fact most have rich work and life experiences that could be invaluable to the practice of law. Maybe they just aren't as amenable to brainwashing. =:-}

3. Is anyone doing anything about it? The poetic irony of it all is fascinating: the law profession illegally discriminating against their own.

Thanks,

John
