Minnow, >Why? If you replaced every processor in a series 390 computer with an x-86 processor, it would have a very small impact on AMD's or Intel's revenue. Why should either company care about this, let alone make it a priority?

Installed base plus new shipments? Also, the Intel or AMD processor to replace, one for one, an IBM TCMP processor, is going to sell for a hell of a lot more than a PIII or Athlon. So, if what you say is true, why is Intel developing McKinley, Mendenhall, Madison... (OK, also Sun high end server business).
