Hello

I am running Windows 98

When I open a file with MS Excel, it opens very slowly. Just opening Excel with no file says it runs virus scans 4 times, two before loading funcres(sp?) and two after.

MS Word seems to do the same.

When I first bought this PC, MSWord and MSExcel files loaded very quickly and now it is a major wait.

I have a hunch this comes from reinstalling the program (OfficeXP) more than once where something gets set on a startup file than gets set again where the old virus scan request isn't recognized.

Any ideas on how to get this back to a single virus scan, or none at all?

Thanks

UPDATE... I made it faster as it was loading all files in a directory that Excel couldn't read so it virus scanned these 4 times then showed nothing...
I turned off the feature to "open all files in this directory" but I still have the virus scans..
