An open letter to Softquad.
Selwyn Rabins, David Gurney Softquad Alpha Software
A few of questions/concerns.
1. The Find/SVP white paper is interesting. The significance escapes one given 1) it is never stated why this is significant to Softquad shareholders and accordingly this is a publicly-held company and not a non-profit university, think-tank, research center.
2. Is it a tie-in to TurboFind? If that is the case someone(s) completely failed in establishing superior perceived value, maximizing brand equity, etc. with the packaging and overall strategic marketing of TurboFind. The Find/SVP white paper suggests the data mining market is considerable and substantive. One would never know that from TurboFind packaging, specifically and its marketing, in general.
3. Is WebFiler being marketed at the retail level and is it as big a blockbuster as Seybold, et al have endorsed it?
4. When is Q3 being announced?
lastly and tragically, one would never know that HotMetaL Pro 4.0 was ever shipped, was available, is a product, is a company.
In closing we are very concerned that Softquad has viewed their IPO as nothing more than a government grant and has no concept of shareholder value maximization. With all due respect, this (pseudo-publicly-held, including Alpha) company acts much more like a non-profit academically-oriented structure e.g. a non-profit liberal think-tank with commensurate marketing (in)abilities.
Where are we wrong?
Sincerely and Respectfully,
/s/Norman A. Levinson, Chairman esecurities corporation
