I have to admit I was rather shocked when you immediately ordered it. David Foster Wallace has a very intense writing style that can be read simultaneously on multiple levels but I think also works if you stick on the surface. Don't feel bad if you don't finish it in one go -- DFW never really managed to get it properly finished himself. I enjoyed reading the footnotes and the footnotes to the footnotes as I went along, but I think you can safely ignore them if you want to stay linear. Have fun -- just dive in and keep on going until you have to stop! Judging by the other books you mentioned, this will be a new type of reading experience for you. LC
