Mohan... Free PCs?
Sounds like a great idea, but as the article says we're a little ways away from it. Some of my thoughts as I read the article:

Sure I think I'd like a free PC(s) connected to fast cable. [It's getting pretty expensive in my house with 3 PC's]. Do you suppose they'd upgrade each PC every 2 years so I wouldn't be stuck with 'old' technology? Right now a PC that's 3 years old is almost an antique. And if I'm Joe Average or Grandma would they service it for me when "it doesn't work" or do I just 'bang on the side of it' like some folks did with the TV that was on the fritz? Will I have enough disk space to hold the gigs of software I use, or won't I need local software any more, or software's included? (Nobody thinks about the software imbedded in their TV, phone, or car. Maybe with these PCs I won't have to worry about which version of Office or browser I run... it's just there!).

"Service providers want to make PCs ubiquitous". EVERYBODY is looking for ubiquity, but as the article states, I'm afraid it's going to take a while.

I sorta think, that someday, in addition to a Soc Sec number, everyone will have a web-page; assigned at birth, it'll keep all your vital information health, marriages, children, etc. It will be accessed through smart cards and the 'standard' PCs of the future. More food for thought.
