Hey, you're not going to get me to defend the American news media... they are largely an incompetent bunch, chasing salacious stories instead of serious news, primping their hair and color-coordinated ties... and bungling the serious stories more often than not when they *do* bump into it.

These systemic problems are getting worse day by day with the increasing monopolization of the media ownerships.

But, in this particular case (prime time coverage for The Prez's speech) bias from the media was not an issue.

The President gambled he would get free coverage benefiting the Republican's campaigns... without formally asking for it.

He lost that gamble so is not phoney-ing up this as an 'issue' for campaign purposes.

You are being played like a pitbull in a basement... The Prez has found a no-lose gamble: either he gets free campaign coverage for a non-White House event without asking for it... or he gets a free drummed-up political 'issue' to raise contributions and insite the Republican base with just before an election.

It's all manipulation... and it's very skillfully done. I see the hand of General Rove in it, and I applaud his deviousness... his mastery of PR.
