DougH-
The Stimulus Package was passed in 1993 (I think, but definitely during the Democratic control). In 1994, mid-term elections, voters who were angered by the tax increases in the Stimulus Package, voted the GOP into control. Okay?

The "Stimulus Package" is totally separate from the tax increases which passed without one republican vote (it cost Margorie Margolies-Mezvinsky (sp) her job as the last deciding vote). The "Stimulus Package" was really just a trial balloon which the administration floated with other great ideas as the BTU tax which also went nowhere.

The republicans and conservative democrats were against the package, which was only around $15 billion of total pork which was mostly ear-marked for the cities, a classic political payoff.
