Generally speaking, you are certainly correct, but I have to respectfully disagree on this occasion, considering THIS market.

We have all seen recent market reaction to earnings releases which exceed, or fail to meet analyst projections. The most recent example for me was PTEK, which met analyst projections, but reported a well-publicized, one-time charge against the quarter for merger consolidation. The stock promptly dropped 15% - This kind of action appears to be the current norm, and any dollars that Vivus reports above the expected ones should attract buyers, uninformed or otherwise.
