re: Who's ever denied Israel's right to exist? What Arabs and other anti-Zionists don't like about Israel is not the State of Israel per se but rather its racist --or ethnic if you like-- polity.

All the Arab states have denied Israel's right to exist. Only Egypt and Jordan have recognized Israel at all. The other states do not admit the legitimacy of "the Zionist entity" -- Israel. They recognize an Arab entity -- occupied Palestine.

I'm sure the Arabs would be happy with a majority Arab Palestine with a Jewish minority. From the Jews' point of view, the Arab track record on democracy or protecting the rights of minorities is less than encouraging, you know? Besides, the Arabs promised so often to "drive the Jews into the sea" that the Israelis got the idea that peaceful co-existence was not really what they had in mind.

I might point out that Arabs who remained in Israel after the War of 1948 were allowed to stay; Jewish communities on the West Bank (or elsewhere in the Arab world, for that matter) were obliterated. Arafat never even pretended to allow any Jews to stay in his Palestinian Authority.
