I'm not sure that I do. Yes, it's plausible in dollar terms, but I think we have to keep in mind that the value of assets in various countries is distorted by exchange rates. Houses in the U.S. probably cost more than most places, but are they really enough better to justify the price difference? Land prices are an even better example, because ultimately, the real value of a piece of land is in its ability to support life, not how close it is to the downtown of some metropolitan area.
