12:30ET Market hit an air pocket of sorts following the release of the Philadelphia Fed Index-- a regional manufacturing report... The details of the report were pretty ugly, particularly the headline figure, as the Index fell to -12.2 in July versus the -1.0 consensus... For the second consecutive month, all of the components of the index showed signs of contraction... The negative response to the data has been mitigated somewhat by an understanding that this index is extremely volatile, and the Philly region has a spotty track record when it comes to predicting national trends... Nevertheless, the report is another reminder that the U.S. economy is not on the verge of a V-shaped recovery... Consequently, today's enthusiasm has been tempered a bit... NYSE Adv/Dec 1751/1156... Nasdaq Adv/Dec 2111/1261.
