And also of course an investor in, and backer of, Globalstar. They are also one of the most active participants in 3GPP standards development (formally done in ETSI) for GPRS & UMTS UTRA (WCDMA).

As the first carrier to install a cdma overlay of a GSM net (trial basis) and owner of one heck of a CDMA net (Verizon), Vodafone is probably better capable of making comparative judgements about how and when to evolve a 3G net, then any carrier in the world.

This could bode well for CDMA (and Qualcomm) over the long haul.

I thought I was on the wrong thread here for a moment when I saw the esteemed Maurice Winn posting in. Someone must have given him a copy of the Manual.
