RE: "I have seen and heard these estimates for years. They don't
compute, in my estimation.

Either idiots run these PCs and they have to be supported by
highly paid, near-genius MIS technicians or someone is fudging
the numbers."

Well, that is not quite how it works here.

Here, we have highly paid, near-genius scientists trying
to use computers that keep breaking. The idiot MIS technicians
try to get the things to work properly while the highly payed scientists wast their time waiting for their machine to get
fixed. Finally the highly payed scientists get fed up, and
try to fix the machine themselvs. They finally get it fixed,
and it lasts a few weeks before it starts to fail again.
This all happens while my freind here who wants to fix all
the machines has to use all the parts that the idiot MIS
person buys, while his system at home runs great with no
problems at all, except that now after 3 months, the hard
drive won't boot any more, so we have to go back to Fry's
and exchange it. The boot sector must be bad because everything
else works great.
