01/06 12:00P (DJ) DJ Sears/Sun Micro -2: Sears Sees Web-Connected Appliances LAS VEGAS (Dow Jones)--Sears, Roebuck & Co. (S) is working with Sun Microsystems Inc. (SUNW) and other companies to develop an "Internet-connected home." In a press release Thursday, Sears said it envisions selling home appliances that use Sun's Java and Jini technologies. The talks between Sears and Sun Microsystems are part of a wider effort by several companies to connect home appliances to the Internet. As reported earlier Thursday, Cisco Systems Inc. (CSCO) formed an alliance with GTE Corp. (GTE) and Whirlpool Corp. (WHR) to develop technologies that would support an Internet connecton on household appliance. As reported, Cisco and Sun plan to work with home builders who could build homes equipped for the Internet.
