Shopping for DVD: I have been away form CUBE for ages, but now that I am considering getting a DVD drive computer, and perhaps even waiting not all that long to get a recordable DVD drive, thought I would stop back and check things out. In my 'shopping research' I have found that the apparent best free-standing add on DVD drive is the CREAF Encore, and this was really the best product availble until I just noticed the HP 8280 computer which is 2300 bucks at Best buy, and has a 333mghtz Pentium 2, a DVD drive WITH Video and Audio IN and OUT which is missing so far in Dell, Compaq, and Gateway as far as I can tell. The only recordable DVD drive is still not available on a new compute unless you add it yourself, and is pricy at $799 for the Panasonic model on which yu can record 5.2 gig of data on a 2 sided disc that costs around 39 bucks so far. The beauty of course of the video in and out is that you can first of all connect yuor PC to your large screen tv and home theatre speakers and not have to get a separate DVD player. The beauty of the recordable is that of course each disc holds almost as much as the largest common hard drive, and you can transfer old camcorder video onto it and have it digitized and preserced forever, beyond, of course the nomrmal storage functiions you may now use on a paltry little 'Zip' drive!! |
