I don't think we have to worry about whether demaind > supply for the next couple of quarters. I believe the problem will be for xmas and beyond, into 1999. The price on these systems will be high, in the $3000 and up.

I think the bigger issue will be if they work well and reliably. Mostly the systems are for corporations and minimally sought by tech freaks and game players. Speed and graphics are the driving force for getting them.

...but one will have to wonder whether INTC created a white elephant, an EDSEL, that has all the bells and whistles at double the price. This may just be arriving too early when under $500 systems are doing most of what the $3000 systems can do.

...and remember AMD K6 has quite a bit of punch for a very low price and they have been tested to run at 100MHZ bus speed where the pentiums can not.

They will be filling a need for a lower priced HIGH performance system and COMPAQ will offer it to compete in price with DELLs higher priced systems.
