OFF SUBJECT: To All Threaders

Hope no one objects but it has been a very depressing day in the Greater Delaware Valley (NJ-PA and DE area surrounding Philadelphia) for all sports fans. The passing away of Richie Ashburn. It was the passing of a great human being, one who was much loved by the all the fans when he played baseball and maybe even more as we gained an insight to him on radio and tv.

I followed his baseball career from 1948 till he became the color
analyst for the Phillies games in 1964 till his death early this a.m.
His induction in the Basebase HAll of Fame in 1995 was long over due.

The callers to the talk shows today showed such overwelming emotion that some could not finish their remarks. Many tears were shed today.

He came from Nebraska but spent almost 50 years in the Philadelphia area, much to our good fortune.

These few lines cannot touch upon or give any insight to the man. He was loved for so many reasons but the thread that runs through everything is that this was a man of rare character and truly loved by all who knew him and even those who never met him. A rare quality indeed.

Was it coincidence that the Phillies won tonight by 1-0. Richie Ashburn's number was 1?

Thank you for being patient with me in this post.

Harold
