KC, I learned with the Cold War, which was THE scam. Showing footage of atomic blasts and talking about obliteration of the planet earth scare the living daylight of people and gave the upper hand to the 'defense' establishment to do whatever they want in the name of 'security'. The public opinion against nuclear power stations was because while promoting a 'clean', 'heap' power generation (to produce plutonium as a by-product to make warheads) the same technology was used to kill the population of the earth. I can recall joking jokes about the atomic bombs to my friends -who took the 'thread' damn serious- because I could see the scam behind the whole construction.. Two years ago I lived one and half year in Prague and get to know the people who would invade the west and would destroy planet earth's life. The guys are no different than we are. The only thing they resented was 50.000 USSR troops keeping the puppet communist regime in place. Similar to what the US is trying to do right now in Iraq.
