JDS Uniphase Features Transmission Products For The Network Edge At Tradeshows Transponders For Telecom And Datacom Featured Along With New Amplifiers, Integrated Components At ECOC; Test Instruments And Carrier Subsystems Featured At NFOEC Sunday September 8, 8:00 pm ET
OTTAWA, CANADA and SAN JOSE, CA--(INTERNET WIRE)--Sep 8, 2002 -- JDS Uniphase Corporation (NasdaqNM:JDSU - News) and (Toronto:JDU.TO - News) today announced several transmission products, compact amplifiers and integrated components among other new products for fiberoptic telecommunications, data communications and CATV. The products show cutting edge integration, size and cost reduction for network edge applications and will be exhibited at the European Conference on Optical Communication (ECOC), September 8-12 in Copenhagen. JDS Uniphase also announced new test instruments, which it will feature along with its network ready products for carriers, at the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) Sept 15-18 in Dallas. ADVERTISEMENT "Our new offerings are targeted for specific areas of the network where our customers need products right now. These include transponders and active components for access, metro, aggregation, and enterprise applications," said Syrus Madavi, President and COO of JDS Uniphase. "Through its new product mix and increasing focus on transmission, JDS Uniphase is showing that it can rapidly adapt its offerings to market needs, and remain innovative and productive while reducing costs."
Transmission products for the network edge
JDS Uniphase introduced its new 300-pin, small form factor (SFF), 1310 nm wavelength, 10 Gb/s transponder for client-side VSR/SR1 (very short reach/short reach 1) applications. Also featured is the SFF 10 Gb/s transponder at 1550 nm for client-side SR2/IR (short reach 2/intermediate reach) applications up to 40 km. Both products are available for SONET and Forward Error Correction (FEC) data rates.
Other new transmission products from JDS Uniphase are the network-side 10 Gb/s, 50 GHz DWDM multi-rate transponder, which features options for reaches up to 100 km and the 10 GbE XENPAK transceiver for Gigabit Ethernet applications.
JDS Uniphase has a wide range of transmission products including source lasers, modulators and drivers, receivers, transceivers and transponders for network core and edge telecommunications, data communications and CATV applications at multiple data rates.
Cutting edge integration, cost and size reduction
JDS Uniphase's new 10 Gb/s modulator with optional chirp has an integrated photodiode and is only 65 x 12 x 5 mm, 50% smaller than previous models. Intended for metro and long-reach applications, it operates over the entire band (wavelength independent), offering potential reductions in sparing requirements and compatibility with tunable lasers.
The OA 300, a palm-sized amplifier for metro and access C-band applications is the tiniest of the OA Series at only 45 x 70 x 12 mm and draws less than 1 W of power. The OA Series is the broadest offering of standard amplifiers in the industry, offering flexible, scalable amplifier platforms without the cost and time required for custom development. The new OA 600 was also introduced for L-band metro and access applications.
Integrated components perform multiple functions while reducing cost and size. The new IPM combines monitor and tap in the industry's smallest package and is available individually or in arrays. Monolithic integration offers significant potential size reduction, and JDS Uniphase will preview an 8-channel arrayed waveguide grating (AWG) with variable optical attenuator and tap/photodiode array.
Tunable lasers reduce costs, enable dynamically reconfigurable networks
The new CQF 310 is a continuous wave, distributed Bragg reflection source laser with 20 mW output power that is tunable over 24 x 50 GHz or a quarter band. It is available in eight wavelength ranges covering the C and L bands. Because it can be tuned over a range of wavelengths, it offers cost savings potential by reducing sparing and inventory for lasers and also enables next generation dynamically tunable systems. JDS Uniphase is previewing its CQF 478, a 20 mW, 8 x 50 GHz, continuous wave, temperature tunable laser with an integrated etalon-based wavelength locker that can reduce source laser sparing and inventory for Metro, hybrid fiber-coax (HFC) and cable television applications
High performance components
JDS Uniphase also announced several high performance components, including a 6-port multiplexer/demultiplexer coupler, a high reliability fused fiber 980 nm PM combiner, a 50 GHz 4-channel WDM, a micro-optic 2x2 PM splitter, an 8-channel AWG with very low chromatic dispersion and a 14xx pump laser with 400 mW output power.
Instrumentation
JDS Uniphase Instrumentation introduced 10 Gb/s Multi-Rate Electrical Clock and Data Recovery, Tunable Laser Sources, Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers, Broadband Sources, Utility Cassettes, and enhanced Tunable Grating Filters for its modular Multiple Application Platform (MAP) test system. The modules facilitate testing of high data rate transponders to both telecommunications and data communications standards. Other new products include a Stressed Eye Generator, low cost Optical Pattern Generator and Error Detector with optical interfaces for testing to IEEE 802.3ae 10 Gb/s specifications. Additionally, an enhancement to the Swept Wavelength System (SWS) provides IL, PDL, group delay and differential group delay (DGD) testing of a wide array of optical components in a single instrument. The new test instruments will be exhibited at ECOC, and NFOEC and the display will include test solutions highlighting the 300-pin IR SFF transponder and 10GBASE-LR XENPAK transceiver modules.
Network Ready Products
Also at NFOEC, JDS Uniphase will exhibit its Network Ready Products, a family of carrier class subsystems for metro edge and access applications. Features include wavelength aggregation, regeneration and media conversion, amplification, protection switching and optical demarcation. JDS Uniphase offers easy-to-implement products that are adaptable to the installed base, and allow quick solutions for common problems such as fiber exhaust and reach extension. These subsystems can be engineered and installed on a link-by-link basis, allowing carriers to grow and respond to revenue opportunities without extensive capital expenditures. Network Ready Products have been deployed by carriers to offer Ethernet, SAN and wavelength services.
Multiple Source Agreements (MSAs)
JDS Uniphase joins other suppliers to provide products that have common specifications to ease integration and design for systems providers. Continuing these efforts, JDS Uniphase announced its participation in a 10 Gb/s optical receiver MSA. |
