The British, as I recall from a early 19020's article in Asia Magazine, imported Jewsih immigrants in order to provide a substantial middle class to Palestine. I quote the January 1921 issue, P.76,"No people have been mnore sympathetci than the English towad the aims and aspirations of Zioism. The Zioinst have numbered among their supporters Lord Palmerston, the Earl of Shaftesbury, Colonel Conder and more recently Sir Mark Sykes (the Sykes Picot treaty...as you recall)and Mr. Arthur Balfour.

In a review of the book the History of Zionism (Nahum Sokolow)..."the author, like most Zionists, denies that there is any intention to found a ploitcal state which would conflict with the interest of tthe present inhabitants of Palestine."

The author of the review then goes on to add, "Its enemies, many of them Jews, believe the movement is doomed to failure and scoff at "the idle dream of a few visionaries."

HMMMmmmm.

Szam you know any nationa who any power does bad things. Its only the countries like Luxembourg that don't do bad things.

Ref yours,"A good deal of the Israeli/Arab conflict can be laid at their door(the BRitish) as well (with the complicity/neglect of the UN and others). What is amazing is that British have such a benign image, at least in the US. While they actively helped to lay the foundations for some of the worst ongoing conflicts in the world today".
